नए साल के उपलक्ष्य में आपने कोई Resolution लिया हो या न लिया हो, लेकिन 2 महिलाओं ने इतिहास रच दिया. 1 जनवरी 2019 की सुबह 3:45 बजे, 2 महिलाओं ने केरल के सबरीमाला मंदिर में प्रवेश कर पूजा-अर्चना की. वही सबरीमाला मंदिर, जिसमें 10-50 की उम्र की महिलाओं का प्रवेश वर्जित है.

ANI के अनुसार,
‘बिंदु और कनकदुर्गा केरल के सबरीमाला में गईं और पूजा-अर्चना की. पुलिस निगरानी में इन दोनों ने पूजा की. दिसंबर 2018 में विरोध के कारण महिलाएं पूजा करने में असफ़ल हुई थी.’
कोर्ट ने सबरीमाला में महिलाओं के प्रवेश पर लगे प्रतिबंध को हटा दिया था लेकिन विरोध के कारण महिलाएं मंदिर में प्रवेश नहीं कर पाई.

NDTV के अनुसार, महिलाओं के प्रवेश के बाद शुद्धीकरण के लिए मंदिर के द्वार बंद कर दिए गए.
महिलाओं के प्रवेश की बात फैलते ही जगह-जगह पर विरोध की घटनाएं घटी. बीजेपी कार्यकर्ताओं ने केरल के मंदिर निकायों के मंत्री, कदाकमपल्ली सुरेंद्रन को काले झंडे दिखाए. बीजेपी कार्यकर्ताओं ने केरल की राजधानी तिरुवनंथपुरम में विरोध प्रदर्शन भी किया.
सबरीमाला में 10-50 के बीच की उम्र की महिलाओं के प्रवेश का विरोध इसीलिए कर रहे हैं क्योंकि भगवान अयप्पा ब्रह्मचारी हैं.
कुछ लोगों का ये मानना है कि पहले के ज़माने में सबरीमाला तक पहुंचाने का रास्ता अत्यंत दुर्गम था इसीलिए 10-50 के बीच की उम्र की महिलाएं वहां नहीं जाती थी. वक़्त के साथ हालात बदले हैं.
सवाल सिर्फ़ ये उठता है कि जब क़ानून ने महिलाओं को इजाज़त दे दी है तब क्या इस तरह का विरोध जायज़ है?
