विवादित नागरिकता संशोधन बिल 2019 (Citizenship Amendment Bill- CAB) कल देर रात लोक सभा में पारित हो गया. बीते सोमवार को देर रात तक बिल पर बहसबाज़ी हुई. वोटिंग में बिल के पक्ष में 311 वोट थे और बिल के विरोध में 80. बिल को लोक सभा से हामी मिलने के बाद बुधवार, यानी कल ये राज्य सभा में पेश किया जायेगा.

इस बिल में 6 धर्मों के लोगों के बारे में कहा गया है पर मुसलमानों के बारे में नहीं. कुछ लोगों का मानना है कि ये मुस्लिमों को दूसरे दर्जे का नागरिक बनाता है और दूसरे धर्मों को प्राथमिकता देता है. कांग्रेस के नेता मनीष तिवारी ने कल बहस के दौरान ये कहा कि ये संविधान के अनुच्छेद 14 (समानता का अधिकार) का उल्लंघन करता है, जिसे गृहमंत्री ने खारिज किया.
बिल के विरोध में कई उत्तरपूर्वी राज्य खड़े हो गए हैं. यहां के नागरिकों का मानना है कि ग़ैरकानूनी प्रवासियों को बसाने से वहां के डेमोग्राफ़ी पर बुरा प्रभाव पड़ेगा और रोज़गार के अवसर भी कम हो जायेंगे.
